In the heart of 1990s Chicago, beneath the glow of the skyline and surrounded by the unforgettable energy of Bulls basketball, Elizabeth Burba learned early that persistence can take you places. Growing up in the Windy City, she watched her hometown team make history with not one, but two three-peats. That spirit of determination stayed with her.

By 2012, Elizabeth had brought that same drive into nursing. She graduated at the top of her class, ready to put her skills to work helping others. But her most meaningful lesson would come a few years later.

In 2014 and 2015, Elizabeth became a mother and experienced firsthand how challenging breastfeeding can be, especially when the support and guidance you need aren't readily available. Despite her nursing education, she found herself navigating a journey she hadn't felt fully prepared for. Rather than simply accept that gap, she decided to do something about it.

That experience became the starting point for a new kind of mission: making sure mothers have knowledgeable, compassionate support when they need it most. Elizabeth turned a difficult personal experience into a commitment to improving maternal care and helping families feel more confident along the way.

At the University of Illinois at Chicago, that commitment took shape in a big way. Elizabeth founded the university's first-ever outpatient lactation clinic. This successfully created a dedicated space where families could receive the guidance and support she once wished she'd had herself.

Today, Elizabeth brings that same combination of determination, empathy, and Chicago grit to the families she serves. Her goal is simple: to make your journey feel a little less overwhelming, a lot more supported.
